How Hanna Lowered Daily Losses on Her Farm

Hanna runs a 7-hectare strawberry farm in the Chynów municipality, employing 60 seasonal workers during an intense 30-day harvest season. Previously, she relied on gut feeling to manage the harvest, which often led to overproduction and financial losses. After implementing the epunnet app and NFC wristbands, she gained real-time access to field data and regained control over meeting the daily production target. The solution proved effective in an environment where every working hour counts, demonstrating that digitization makes sense even in short harvest seasons.

Goal

Hanna has a clearly defined goal each day: to prepare 12 tons of strawberries for her client. In the past, however, she worked based on estimation. She and her foremen recorded the harvested quantities in notebooks. Every day after 1 p.m., stress would set in, as she had no way of knowing whether the workers had already picked enough fruit, or too much or too little. The lack of hard data led season translated into losses of up to EUR 4 500-5 500.

Hanna decided to implement epunnet after one particularly costly day, when she was left with more than a ton of unsold fruit. That day alone cost her EUR 1 000. She realized she needed a system that would give her real-time insight into what was happening in the field - no more guessing, no more estimating. The Agro Contracts team helped launch the system, and in this case, one morning was enough to get everything up and running. Workers received NFC wristbands and completed a short training session with the supervisors. On the very first day of harvesting, Hanna could already see on her phone how much each worker had picked and how close they were to the daily goal.

Implementation results

  • Hanna gained full visibility into field data - she could see who picked how much and when.
  • She was able to accurately determine when to stop harvesting, significantly reducing overproduction.
  • Losses dropped from EUR 4 500-5 500 to just around EUR 500-750. Average daily surplus fell from over 300 kg to negligible levels.
  • The return on investment was visible within the first month. The system cost EUR 1 425 for the entire season and delivered savings several times greater.
  • New workers adapted quickly - each received a wristband, eliminating the need for long explanations or additional supervisor training time.
  • Workers could track their performance in real time during the day, reducing tension at payout time.
  • Hanna managed the system on her own - making changes, exporting data to Excel, and running operations without external help.

Next season, Hanna plans to expand the system to include the packing station - to track not only what leaves the field, but also what goes into crates and onto pallets. She wants to analyze data by variety, field, and harvest dates to optimize her season and plan future plantings.

"epunnet gave me peace of mind. I'm not guessing anymore - I know."

Are you still guessing how much more can be picked each day on your farm? Hanna no longer has to.
